inSITE Update 13.10.2016
This week marks the last week of my 5 week professional placement at Turramurra High School. It can be said that those 5 weeks have been interesting but also a rewarding experience. I will admit the first few weeks were hard on me as I tried to adapt to the eclectic classroom environments and build rapport with students. I found that I struggled with time-management over the course of those 5 weeks as I had to deal with the 2 hour commute each way from Penrith to Turramurra whilst also juggling night work and university. This was honestly quite difficult for me but eventually I found my rhythm towards the end of week 3, which made Week 4 and this week (Week 5) so much easier to transition into.I feel that I can start to say that my time-management skills are improving but there is honestly still a bit of work to do in that area….but I am working towards it little by little.
However, the most rewarding part of this experience so far is the amazing rapport I have built up with most of my students I have had…the atmosphere and transitions between activities in class just flowed and it allowed the class and I to make amazing progress through the content. I have also built rapport with a lot of fantastic and talented teachers from the science staff room at Turramurra, who have offered a plethora of valuable advice and I believe this has helped me grow so much in the past 5 weeks and has begun to mold me into the teacher I want to be for my future students and classes.
